Joint/Combined Exercises

The NATO Strategic Commanders, as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), conduct on average two Inter-allied Exercises per year. One exercise is normally a command post exercise and the other is in support of a live exercise. Under the authority of the Vice-Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Reserves and Cadets is mandated to provide international training for Primary Reserves. With this authority, D Res sponsors the participation of up to six Primary Reservists to participate, per exercise. These exercises are normally two weeks in duration.

Advanced Logistics Officers Course (ALOC)

This Specialty Qualification is open to primary reserve officers in the R78 MOC. (See selection requirements below)

Possession of this specialty will enhance the skills of personnel and enable them to be employed in command and staff appointments by broadening their professional knowledge in the theory and practical application of logistics, resource management, and leadership.

This course is generally offered twice a year and is conducted at the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics (CFSAL) located at CFB Borden.

The Lester B. Pearson Canadian International Peacekeeping Training Centre

The mission of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre (PPC) is to support and enhance the Canadian contribution to international peace, security and stability.

The Centre, is a division of the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies, is an independent, non-profit organization established by the Government of Canada in 1994. The Centre is funded, in part, by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Department of National Defence and was named in honour of Lester B. Pearson, a distinguished diplomat and for Primer Minister of Canada who invented peacekeeping at the time of the 1956 Suez Crisis. For his work, he was awarded the 1957 Nobel Peace Prize.

The PPC is located at Cornwallis Park on the shore of the Annapolis Basin near the western tip of the Province of Nova Scotia, on the site of the former Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis. All programs are offered in English and selected courses are offered in French. Most courses are normally two weeks in duration and offered at various times of the year. The rank levels for participants varies from course to course and is identified in each Request for Nomination Message generated by D Res.

International Junior Officer Leadership Development Seminar (IJOLDS)

This seminar is open to any reserve junior officer of the rank of Second Lieutenant / Acting Sub-Lieutenant through to Captain / Lieutenant (N).

IJOLDS provides a prime international training opportunity for reserve junior officers to come together for the purposes of sharing the common cultural values of reservists, building teamwork within international forces and expanding the personal and professional horizons of participants.

IJOLDS is offered once a year and is conducted normally at a European location over a week period.

United States Reserve Components National Security Course (USRCNSC)

This course is open to senior primary reserve officers in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel/Commander.

This course is an opportunity for senior officers to explore new horizons and share information and experiences in a joint service program that encompasses national and international issues. Although each course covers about 20 topics, content will vary from course serial to serial. The following is an example of some previous topics;

The USRCNSC is conducted annually in Arlington, Virginia over a period of two weeks. D Res promulgates an announcement 2-3 months prior to the start date.
